2011 Merit Badge Clinic

Welcome to the 2011 Merit Badge Clinic Main Page

In the past, we have had problems with discipline among the Scouts attending our Merit Badge Clinics.  Some of our discipline problems are:
  • Disrespect towards merit badge counselors and adult leaders.
  • Slapping, hitting and pushing other scouts during class time.
  • Talking back to adults when asked to stop.
  • Making handouts into paper airplanes and throwing them around the room during class time.
  • Running around the room and making noises.
  • Leaning back in their chairs and falling over.
  • Loud burping contests.
If we encounter any of these problems, the scout will be removed from class and asked to call his parents to come pick him up.  We encourage parents and leaders to attend class and participate with their scouts.  What we would like is for 1 adult leader for every 5 to 6 scouts that attend class to help out with "keeping the peace" and making this an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Something that we as a district have observed is that Scouts that are not in uniform tend to be the most disruptive.  The regular fee for this clinic is $3.00.  If a scout does not show up in uniform he will have to pay either $5.00 or $6.00 depending on the location.  Please have your scout in uniform.  The fees are used to pay for any materials the merit badge counselors need to use and for any incidental expenses that may occur.
Please be aware that the pre-requisite work is not optional.  There will be only one day of class time and if the pre-requisites are done, the merit badge will be complete and the blue card can be signed off that day.  If the pre-requisite work is not done, the merit badge counselor has the right to ask the scout to leave.
If you were not able to pre-register, you may walk in on the day of the merit badge clinic and sign up for a class if the scout has completed the pre-requisites and there is a space in the class available.  Many scouts pre-register and do not show up, so there should be plenty of spaces available.

Items to be aware of for every Merit Badge Clinic
Remember that you are only allowed to signup for one class per morning and one per afternoon session....
  1. The cost is $3 with full scout uniform and either $5 or $6 without full scout uniform depending on Location.
  2. Make sure your blue cards are properly filled out and signed by your Scoutmaster
  3. One supervising adult for every _____ (5 - 6?) scouts.
  4. Scouts who misbehave or act in an un-scout like manner will be removed and their parents called to come get them.
  5. Merit Badge pre-requisite work is not optional. If the work is not done the scout will be asked to leave.
